Updates

This week was a little rough, what with four tests, an essay, and also getting sick somewhere along the way. I feel pretty good about how I did school-wise, though. I finished the story I was working on, but I decided it wasn't worth posting up there with all the others. Not all short stories need to have an overarching purpose, but I wrote that one with no point at all. It was just dead. You might still see this story sometime in the future, though, along with any other fragments and writing I didn't think was any good. I was thinking of adding a page called the Local Void, which will function as a miscellaneous dump for anything that doesn't have a place anywhere else on the site. I thought the name was kind of clever.

So in light of that, I've started a new story. This one is about a little robot going for a walk. At least on the surface. This one has been begging to be written for some time, and it'll be my first thing I've written with a real "deep" metaphor at the center. I'm excited with the way it's going so far.

Codepen is my Lord and Saviour. I took a scanline effect and a news ticker from there. I think the scanline gives my site a little more visual flair while I work on the rest of the aesthetic, and the headlines are a semi-unqiue way to add a live update function. If only I can remember to keep up with updating it. And speaking of updates, I was thinking of adding a function where new things added to the site have a little *new* alert next to them until you click them. I have some idea of how to do that.

I didn't exactly keep to my goal of putting the site on ice while I wrote this entire week. This week, I don't think I have any ideas in particular to add to my update schedule so I'll leave it be for now. I added a few more reviews to the review page. Looking back at some of them, it looks like a kindergartener wrote them, but that's whatever. It's my honest opinion, damnit!

I also had this idea to somehow turn every story into something of a visual novel to make it a little bit more interactive and unique looking. That'll be part of the later push to beef up the visual look of the site.

Gallery

Now to address the gallery title. I thought I'd post some of my "art" here just for fun. I say "art" because a lot of these, as you'll see, were drawn amidst my notes in the middle of school (my teachers must be worried about me). Most of them aren't very good, but they're also much better than I would expect them to be. Others are more serious, like for example my face and figure practice. I've thrown in one of my earliest face drawings to sort of contrast that with some of my newer ones. Also, there's the best drawing I've personally made, which would be the samurai. I really hope I can get through this without having to learn digital art for as long as possible. No hate to digital artists, it's just that computer work makes me want to swallow shotgun shells sometimes. The final drawing is an rough estimate of what my new layout of the home page will some day be. I've decided that switching from banners to little custome icons will a) be easier to customize and b) take up less space. My Writings icon will be a pixel art typewriter, the Journal a... journal, the Encyclopedia will probably just be the logo I've created already, not totally sure what I'll do for the media page (maybe a bookshelf with all the mediums represented in some way?), the Upload Schedule (If I even decide to keep it) will be a calendar, the Guest Book will be a simple book, and the Local Void a pixel art version of a supervoid. Each of these would have a different state for when you hover on them, and for the background gif I was considering either recreating a simple version of the pipe screensaver or maybe something more simple, like just some waves rolling over a beach.

Well, without any further ado, here's a quick gallery (At least it all looks good compared to my handwriting lol):

Some silly faces Face of a guy with fish lips A rough and early drawing of a face/head
Two zombies Two headed dream god on a paper for philosophy class Goofy looking guy eating a rat
A samurai Mr. Spider Fingers An angel
Rough format

That's all for now,

MZACK
